We are part of the Baptist Union of Poland (Kościół Chrześcijan Baptystów w RP), which bases its teaching and ministry on the truths of the Holy Scriptures. In 2005, we established a branch of the Second Baptist Church of Wrocław here in Opole. We operated in that form until October 4, 2015, when we became an independent congregation: the “Source of Life” Baptist Church in Opole.
We desire to reach the people of Opole and the surrounding areas with the Gospel, to make them disciples of Jesus, and to follow our Lord together. Because the greatest need of every human being is the forgiveness of their sins. And that is only possible through repentance and faith (Acts 3:19; 10:43). Repentance means a change in how we think about God, about ourselves and our sinfulness, and about who Jesus Christ is, what He has done, and what He will do. Repentance is the response to the good news of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. It is a heartfelt awareness of sin, a hatred of it, and a deep trust in the saving work of Christ on the cross. . .where He redeemed people for God from every tribe, language, people, and nation (Revelation 5:9). Jesus gave His life for His Church (Ephesians 5:25), bearing the punishment for our sins (1 John 2:2). And for those who are in Christ, there is now no condemnation (Romans 8:1).
We believe it is God’s will for every Christian to be part of a local church, where members build one another up (Ephesians 2:22; 4:15–16). God designed the local church to display the truth to the world, for the Word of God calls the church “the pillar and foundation of the truth” (1 Timothy 3:15). It is our desire that both our church and other Christ-centered churches in our city would boldly uphold this truth. . . through both their teaching and the way they live.
The church is made up of members who confess faith in Jesus Christ as their personal Savior, give evidence of spiritual rebirth through their lives, have been baptized, and affirm our Confession of Faith. Every member has the right to vote during Church Conferences, where the most important decisions are made, including the reception and removal of members, and the appointment or dismissal of leaders.
The church is led by the Church Council, which is elected from among the members. The primary responsibility of the Council is to ensure sound biblical teaching and to oversee the overall ministry of the church. The Council also includes the pastor, who holds a special responsibility for shepherding the congregation and teaching the Word.
